YOU CAN BE ANYTHING
theatre performance
by Kunst Teatar with Nikolina Prkačin and Lana Meniga
5 December at 19:00 and 21:30
Convitto Palmieri – Lecce
ITALIAN SUBTITLES
Mara and Lenu are rebellious, immature protagonists navigating the transition from childhood to womanhood. Their humor is dark, politically incorrect, and provocative, mocking societal issues such as chauvinism and women’s oppression. The play critiques Croatia’s social climate, highlighting absurd gender dynamics and the severe judgment women face. Through their irreverence and naivety, Mara and Lenu challenge societal norms, expressing disdain for a world that seeks to control and degrade women.
“Youcanbeanything,” wrote Franco Ungaro for Alias/Il manifesto, “is the slogan of the Barbie advertising campaign promoting diverse beauty rather than standardized female bodies. But it is above all a play that maximizes the theatrical game or theater as play, as a complete challenge to rules, conventions, and prejudices, serving as a lever for change for people and society.”
KunstTeatar, founded in 2018 in Zagreb by Romana Brajša, Domagoj Janković, and Ivan Planinić, focuses on non-institutional contemporary theater. It has co-produced 12 plays staged in Croatia and abroad, winning numerous awards. The company collaborates with various artists and organizations and presents performances for diverse audiences.
