Pupe di Pane is a performance that explores creativity and memory through the ritual of bread-making, symbolizing connection between cultures. Around a workbench called “matthrabbanca,” five actresses revive a tradition that spans different dialects and cuisines: the bread dolls. According to director Tonio De Nitto, these dolls were traditionally shaped for Easter as special gifts for children, representing rebirth, protection, and blessing. The ritual of Pupe di Pane tells the story of strong women who knead and watch over the bread, intertwining their personal lives and stories into the “Great History.”
